my dream vehicle

Alaska in the Fall! since we are soon going to be a family of 6, a bigger car is a must. the car we have now only seats 5. obviously that won't work come may. if i had my way and all the money necessary, we would be driving around in a vw bus. i have wanted one...well forever. actually, when i was little we did have one (i'll have to dig the pictures up) much like the 2nd photo. i believe it was a '77 westfalia (kathy if your reading this, you can let me know if that's right). i'm not sure if the campers seat 6 but that would be my first choice, for obvious camping reasons. i don't believe material things really bring happiness, BUT i KNOW if i had one of these magical machines...i would be oh so stoked! and for a long time!

did i just say material things don't bring happiness??? how silly i am!

what's your dream car? do any of you have a volkswagen?

  4. oh man i could soooo see you guys in one of these...all fixed up and ready to go out on amazing adventures! for a while i was trying to convince my brother and his family to get a 80s vanagon; they are reliable, cozy, camping-friendly, fairly economic and ALMOST as cute as the older VW buses! good luck!!! sometimes you just end up getting lucky and a special something falls into your lap. i'll let you know if i hear of any great deals on these babies up here...might be worth a trip north to pick her up!

hope you're feeling fine and dandy lady!

  5. My dream car is a Corvette Stingray, anywhere from late 60's to early 70's. I just love the shape of it, and I've always loved muscle cars, heh. A VW bus would be awesome too! I call them "hippie vans" heehee.

  6. That is my dream car too. I love the vans ... and they recently discontinued the newer models of the Euro van. Love the first photo! xo

  7. been a dream of mine too. I used to have pictures of them all over my bedroom as a kid. With a family of 6, I definitely think it would be a need. Hope you can get one!

  8. I have my eye on an orange one of those. I figure if I squeeze one out, maybe hubby will let me get it ;) I'm so kidding. No but seriously. I'll do it.

In reality we have a Volvo -84, which I love. Reliable, well-kept, great mileage (my mother-in-law just bought a new "eco" car that gets the same mileage) and as hubby put it: "It'll work with one of those car-seat-thingies, or whatever." We're great advocates of used cars, because hubby is a bit of mechanic and you can't fix a new car yourself.

I'm sending you dream car vibes and an email too.

  9. Oh, man. Driving in a VW Van full of kids listening to Graham Nash and all other 70's goodness. That's how I was raised :) Ours was burnt orange and my very, very favorite, most peaceful and centered memory of life was being a kid with the sun roof rolled in, driving through the summer time. Ours fit, let's see, eight people. I will visualize you in one of these beautiful vans.

  15. It sure is a dream car. My grandpa used to have one and we would drive everywhere! To bad he sold it.. A lot of my youth memories are from that car.

  16. Aw the photos are so lovely!
my dream car... of the newer models I would choose an Audi A3 but from the older ones I'd love to drive one of those old Volkswagen Beetles that rattle along the road and spread the smell of petrol :)

  17. i grew up in a two-vw family (mom and dad traded in their beetle and bus, respectively, for a new bus right around the time i was born, and then an old squareback joined the fleet years later..). i blame my wanderlust and roadtrip loving ways on my dad's habit of taking me on middle of the night vw bus rides in order to sooth my infant self back to sleep.

my first car was a 69 vw beetle, and i loved it so. i sold it to my little brother when i moved away (heck yeah, i said sold, i worked my butt off to buy that little car!), and once he was ready to move on to another car, he sold it to a 16 year old brunette whose family lives just a few blocks from mine. there have been times that i have driven past her--me in my suv with kids, and her open windows with the music on--and it feels like i am seeing myself in a past life.

i am all too aware of the potential shortcomings of old buses (stay away from 74s), but i would still jump at the chance to have one. look at me babbling...dream car, indeed.

  18. oh my! A Westfalia, I would love one! My dream vehicle is an old pickup that gets good gas mileage with a full bunker camper on the back, the kind with the little door! I picture that as the one Steinbeck drove around in with Charley his dog in Travels With Charley.

A family of 6! How awesome! I am going to have to delve deeper into your stories and let my curiosity get the run of me :)

  19. That bottom picture has been one of my favorite pictures for years! It's from my favorite spread in teen Vogue... it's my dream car, too.

  20. If you have a family, a bigger car is total must, since you really need ample room to move your legs 'round during trips. But in my case, my dream car would be a sports car or a luxury car, since I love stylish cars that add personality to a driver.

  21. Hm, bigger is definitely better when it comes to large families. On the other hand, drivers have to be comfortable with the automobile they're driving at the same time. Well, your dream car seems pretty good, so here's to hoping that it becomes a reality for you!

  22. I hope your dream eventually comes true, Anne. =) The value of the material things we have give us true happiness. When we achieve something significant, we feel contented and fulfilled.

  23. I also prefer to have a bigger car like the ‘77 WestFalia, Anne! You can go to the beach or camping together with your family or your friends. What’s more interesting is that you can personalize the interior of this car. Hmm, and now I’m imagining what my WestFalia would look like if I have one. Hehe.

  24. Ah, the Volkswagen Bus. I remember riding in one of these when I was a kid. We took a trip to the beach on my uncle’s VW bus. It was so spacious inside, and the best part is that they used the roof to carry all the surf boards my uncle owns. I miss that big old thing. It’s too bad that my uncle sold it last year. Anyway, it is an ideal car for a growing family like yours. Have you gotten your hands on one? =)
