DIY Natural Deodorant

For the last 6 six years or so I've been using baking soda for deodorant. It works for me but I wanted to try something new that was less messy and easier to apply. I found a recipe that sounded good and made it yesterday morning.

The consistency is similar to very thick lotion. I was concerned that it would stay moist and not dry once I applied it but that was not the case.

I know it's not that pleasing to eye but it actually worked very well! Yesterday was a long day and if the deodorant was going to fail me it would have yesterday. The recipe I used can be found here. I used about 8 drops lavender oil and 1 drop eucalyptus / tea tree oil blend. It smells nice and overall I am very pleased with the results.

Do you have any favorite natural recipes you use?

  1. Thanks for the link on the deodorant. I have been using a crystal for many years, and find it works pretty well and doesn't leave stains, but when it gets really hot out, or I am very active it can need reapplication throughout the day. I will give the recipe you linked a try.

There are a lot of natural and home made products that I use, such as baking soda and acv for my hair, tooth powder to brush my teeth, and vinegar spray for house cleaning. My favorite recipe though, is for laundry detergent. I have been using this recipe for ten years. It can be used in a front loader or a top loader, for cold or hot washes, and it is inexpensive to make. Also, it is very earth friendly. So:

    1 part washing soda
    2 parts pure soap flakes

Mix the ingredients (I it all in a container with a lid, then give the container a shake each time I use it to mix everything) and use 1/4 cup per load of laundry. If the clothing is very soiled, use up to 1/2 cup. When using in a front loader, dump the powder in the slot, and chase it down with some water.

    Cheers

  2. I was looking at this recipe after you pinned it the other day. I used homemade for about a year and tried to get my husband to use it because I loved it so much. He immediately got a rash from it, and shortly after I started getting rashes from it as well and have had to go back to applying the toms of Maine deodorant four times a day to keep from stinking, ha! I will have to give this one a try.
