Camping

Last weekend we went camping as a family for the first time in 2 years. It was a lot of work but we had a really good time! Camping (or going on any kind of trip) with infants and toddlers can definitely make things more difficult but we have never let that stop us from taking trips. Every time you learn something new so that the next trip can run more smoothly. For example, I forgot Shane and Marianne's tennis shoes. I know! How on earth could I forget those? I don't know, but I did. It wasn't too bad just having flip flops since we spent all our time down by the water but I can assure you I will never forget tennis shoes again.

There was no shade for Maggie so I made a makeshift umbrella for her which she thoroughly enjoyed watching as it blew in the breeze.

I loved watching the kids explore in the river. It's such a different experience from the beach.

Max. He's huge. Taller than both Ruben and I now. It's pretty weird having a 15 year old son. I'm still adjusting :) He is a very good brother to all his siblings and is a cool kid, in my opinion. He has good taste in music too, he's open to listening to anything and has a wide variety of favorites.

My beautiful Al. She is such a huge help with all the kids and is crafty and fun and loves One Direction :)

Last picture here is of Nicky (and Banana) enjoying a brief moment of relaxation. I'm so thankful she and her family have camped with us all these years as our family keeps growing...and growing...and growing.

Happy Summer Solstice! I hope you all enjoy and celebrate this day of light in some special way :)

    1. Yes, once he grew taller than me I was totally freaked out! I've come to terms with it now but I won't deny the weirdness of your kids getting older :) It certainly takes some getting use to.

  3. We've been debating a camping trip... wondering if it'd be "worth it" with the littles... but this right here is inspiring... If you can do it with 5, I can do it with 2, right? RIGHT?

  6. this is so awesome! i love every single photo here. it is fun to see your older kids since we don't see them as much; every single one of your children is gorgeous and they each seem so special. also fun to see nicky and the gang!

the shade issue has pestered me many times with my babe; i even bought a little umbrella which is unwieldy and doesn't stand up. i keep trying though! it's worth it to be out in nature and by the water with your little ones. even though it can be difficult, i feel like those memories will last forever.

    good work mama!

    1. yes, the kids having a great time is what I had to remind myself of when I got frustrated. they did have a blast so it was worth it for sure.

glad you enjoyed seeing my older two :) they aren't overly interested in me taking their picture, which is why you don't see much of them. it's not an issue i'm going to force but i'm sure people wonder why i never show them. plus, i don't really feel comfortable talking about them at their age. i'm sure when i was 12 and 15 i would have hated it if my mom was talking about me on her blog :0 of course, there were no blogs back then but i remember if i ever overheard my mom talking about me on the phone or something i'd get really pissed :)

  8. YES! These pictures capture the essence of camp life! Max is so huge! And Maggie so teeny! I love her little shady spot. Lucky her with such a resourceful & crafty mama who takes her camping. Also, you and Nicky both look adorable. Thanks for sharing this lovely scene and happy high summer! Hope there's many more camping adventures in your immediate future.
