The other day me, my Mom and Nana were discussing who the kids looked like. I was telling them that I don't really see myself when I look at them. Then I got out these photos to prove my point. The baby pic on the bottom right resembles Maggie but that's about it, in my opinion. I wish I had childhood pictures of Ruben so you could see how much they all look like him, but I don't.
I love the one of me ironing. Little did I know that chore would take up hundreds of hours of my life when I got older! I wish I was that happy ironing now. Unfortunately it is a part of my life because I refuse to pay for dry cleaning. Plus, I'm quite good at it so I see no reason to pay someone else to do it. You see, me and the iron go WAY back. I remember my Dad teaching me and my sister to iron his pants and shirts when I was in 2nd grade (maybe younger). I don't know if my sister pretended to be really bad at it but in no time it was officially my job. Thanks Jen! I also ironed my school uniforms when I was at my Mom's. My friend Rita's skirt was always nicely ironed (by her mom) and her pleats were perfectly flat. I can't even tell you how many hours I spent trying to get my skirt to look as good as her's! I never did. Maybe we had a crappy iron? I don't know, but it drove me crazy!
I didn't anticipate this post being about ironing but hey, that's where it went! How many times can say iron? A lot. Here's one more just for fun- IRON! hahaha I suppose I could have used pressed instead. Oh well.
So, my question to you is- Do you think your children resemble you? Or if you don't have kids, do you resemble your parents? AND Does anyone else out there iron? Or am I a loner on that one?

I think my daughter looks exactly like I did as a little gurl, but my looks have changed in many wasys since then. Don't really see the resemblance now. Actually I see alot of my husband in her now, but not how he looked as a kid, weird. Baby 2 will join us petty soon, anxious to see what he looks like, it's hard to imagine a child coming out of me that looks any different than my daughter did...
ReplyDeleteAs far as ironing, no thanks. I've had the same iron for years and have used it a hand full of times. Luckily, neither of us work jobs that require pressed clothes or we would be screwed!
Yes, for over 10 years my husband wore a tshirt and jeans to work but now that has all changed. Ironing is a part of my life :( thankfully it's just his clothes and not anyone else's or I'd be really screwed!

Hahaha! Ironing was my chore also AND the worst of it was that my mom made me iron our fabric handkerchiefs (so cringe-worthy throughout my school career) and our underwear. For a bohemian commie hippie my mom was really really stuck up about cleaning and laundry and the like. What kind of a nut irons their underwear. I hate ironing with a fire of a thousand suns even still. But you look adorbs doing it. These pics are so cute. Sorry for my ironing rant. Also, how does one even iron pleats? Iron, iron, iron…the word has lost all meaning…

DeleteAdorable pictures :) My kids all look like me and my side of the family much to my husband's chagrin. Even though he is half Turkish and very dark with brown eyes they all have pale skin and blue eyes. Two of them are even blonde, though I am not a blonde. Almost as if to further rub it in to him ;) As far as ironing, it's never (not even once) been my thing. My neighbor's had an iron out o their curb a few weeks ago that I grabbed but haven't even checked to see if it works. We've gone a decade without one so we'll see....
ReplyDeleteBased on the picture, you look exactly like your mom when she was your age. Hmmm I think my boys don't look like either myself or my husband really. Luckily for them, they're way cuter than either one of us! Oh and ironing is my absolute least favorite chore. I don't think we even have an iron anymore.
ReplyDeleteI think the blond in the bottom left photo looks like your daughter Mary Ann. Is that you or your sister though? I have two boys and we think our 7 yr old looks like both of us. As he gets older his hair is getting darker which makes people think he looks more like me. However, he acts just like my husband and peeps who are close with us think that he looks more like my husband. My little 3.5 year old resembles my husband's baby pictures a lot. So much so that my older son thinks it's his brother instead of guessing his dad. Although I have had friend's say he has my eyes. Don't really care who they look like of us though cause they sure are beautiful boys, though I may be biased.
ReplyDeleteAs for ironing...I try to avoid it at all costs. My husband has had to do it himself on occasion cause I tend to let the items that need ironing lay in the laundry area forever.
Yep, Marianne looks A LOT like you, and it's looking like young Maggie May will too! Lucky girls, beautiful mama, beautiful grandma, beautiful auntie. You can definitely DEFINITELY see the resemblances. It's weird, how you get so used to looking at your kids' faces that you can't even tell what's what anymore. I constantly have people telling me which specific parts of each of my girls looks like me, or looks like Darin. I get Lucy looks more like me, Polly more like Darin, but then there are pictures of Lucy that I feel like the shape of her face is exactly like one I've seen of Darin, and Polly's round eyes come from me for sure. It's super fun to see the combinations, you know I love that! And it makes me want five just like you! What a petty reason huh?! Although we both know NO ONE in her right mind would go to such lengths for vanity, haha!!!
ReplyDeleteAs for ironing, it's a weak spot for me. My etsy stuff is never ironed. I am so so so lazy when it comes to ironing. My mom just bought me a steamer, so sweet of her, but guess what? It's just as hard to use as an iron. It takes just as long or longer. So....wrinkled clothes we wear. I do fanatically fold things once they are dry, and fold neatly. But when they dry on the line they're wrinkly anyway.
