shibori with indigo dye

This afternoon Alex and I tried out shibori dyeing and boy was it fun! It was really cool to watch the color change from bright green to blue as it oxidized. We really liked how everything came out and now I'm trying to decide what else I want to transform before I have to dump out the dye. I also want to try dyeing with black instead of the indigo.

This is a fun craft to try out if you haven't already, so give it a go!

  2. I did this over the summer at a couple different indigo dying parties. It was really fun, and really messy and I remember thinking Mike would kill me if I tried this at our house. It's a blast dying, but I could easily get carried away - favorite outcome being my cotton beach blanket / sheet - Other than that, I can realistically only handle so much tye dye in my life so I'll have to hold off for another try. Dinner napkins would be nice though . . .

  3. beautiful!! i am amazed at your talent, which seems to just flow out of those fingertips of yours. so that's called shibori? i didn't know it was an actual method/style. in 1987 i had a tie dyed shirt in that style, that i found at a ross...it was quite the treasure, since redding had slim pickins for style. now i wish i'd kept it! can't wait to see what else you do!!

  4. Oh my gosh! Gorgeous! This so reminds me of my teenage years. That skirt especially! I'm pretty sure I had a skirt exactly like that. Did you machine wash them afterwards?

  5. i love the way these came out...especially the fisherman pants! so awesome. i was just thinking about how i'd like to get into different methods of dyeing. i am always a bit intimidated to try stuff like that! but seeing your results really makes me want to give it a go.
