everybody knows this is nowhere

We've been out and about quite a bit lately. The weather has been so nice that it's hard to want and stay indoors. One of my goals for the New Year was to make learning more fun for the children and getting outside is one major way of doing that. We went on hike (2nd photo) and took along our nature journals. Alex collected flower samples and drew pictures, I sketched and took photos. We had a little picnic and enjoyed listening to the birdies chirping and the warm wind blowing through the grass.

The 1st and 3rd photos are from Tuesday. One of the boys in our homeschool group was filming a D- Day movie down in Corona Del Mar. Max played the part of a General...very fun to watch!

The 4th is from the Calico Mines. We went exploring with our friends and had loads of fun! Nicky almost rolled her truck down a steep hill and I got ours stuck on three wheels in the middle of the road :O

The last photo is obviously of a glorious sunset. I snapped it Monday evening on my way to the Goodwill (there's never a bad time to go thrifting :D ).

The weekend's almost here...have any fun plans???

oops! I almost forgot the whole reason I made this post! I had this song stuck in head this morning. It really has nothing to do with the pictures, but who cares!

  2. Love that album - and such a cool title track. Also Cowgirl in the Sand and Down by the River on that album! Sweet bliss. I don't know much if you're into photography - but I used to study it - my friend recently sent me the link to the new Ryan McGinley exhibition titled "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" a selection of nude portraits of some really cool looking people. So if you're interested http://www.ryanmcginley.com/Everybody_Knows_This_Is_Nowhere - it kinda ties in with the theme of your post!

Thanks for letting me know about your camera - I'm desperate for a digital SLR (I have an old film SLR and we have a 6 year old compact sony digital) I'm really starting to notice the difference with that old digital that it's not taking that great photos anymore. I think I used to have a Canon Powershot a few years ago and it got stolen - may look into it again as the Dig SLRs are not cheap!

  3. Wow, it looks like you've been out-and-abouting in some super gorgeous locals! Your day of nature journaling and picnicking sounds blissful :)

We're taking Clover on her very first trip to the zoo tomorrow in San Francisco! I'm hoping to stop in at Flora Grubb Gardens to check it out too, if we have time.
