Weekly Quote

I read the above quote this morning and it struck a chord with me. I can't quite find the words to elaborate on it but felt it was still worth sharing. My mind has been a bit jumbled lately. Perhaps due to lack of sleep, trying to keep up with 5 children or both. I imagine you can cut me some slack right?


These pictures were taken the other evening when I managed to get out for a short walk while the baby napped. Shane and Marianne had fun throwing rocks and Shane thought it would be funny to throw Marianne's scooter and his flip flop down the hill (not pictured). We spent the next 20 minutes waiting for him to figure out how to get them back. While I waited, I enjoyed my surroundings and the setting sun.




This is my daughter's last week of school and then summer will officially begin for us. I'm looking forward to it!

i couldn't agree more! it was raining most of the day yesterday but cleared up around sunset. we took a little stroll and watched the birds flying around and listened to the frogs croaking. as we were walking home the beautiful, almost full moon made a brief appearance before it was once again covered by the clouds. i'm happy we got a glimpse because the rain is suppose to continue through next week.

i love that song. i love the doors. and jim of course. actually i have been on a huge doors kick for the last several months. i have a picture on my pinterest of the above lyrics from jim morrison's grave site and i'd been wanting to write/paint it out in some way to give to ruben. so, this morning i water colored them in black on a large piece of water color paper. very simple but i like it. 

i recently re-purchased an american prayer on itunes. i remember hearing that album for the first in high school. it was one of those moments (musically speaking) that you never forget. i especially remember being blown away when i heard peace frog. that song is still one of my favorites by them. and since i'm talking about music i can't fail to mention a new (and shockingly current) favorite band, the deep dark woods. milla suggested them in this post and i am so thankful she did! i rarely like current music so hearing them and actually REALLY LIKING them was huge! i was listening to them while i painted this morning. and as milla recommended them to us all, i now do too :D and hey, if you live near san francisco they will be playing there in november!

i wanted to also say a very big thank you to each and every one of you for the sweet and encouraging comments on my last post. they honestly helped me feel better reading them. and just so you know, i had a very quiet, relaxing night last night and did exactly what i said i was going to do :D thankfully the fog is lifting and i am looking forward to a nice weekend.

as i was sitting in the dentist's office yesterday, waiting for max, i picked up a national geographic magazine and came across these photos. i thought they were amazing and wanted to share them with you all. i just love the one of the guy sitting at the bar. i'd like that one hanging on my wall.

not too much has been happening around here, just everyday life. i wanted to do a post about the last couple of weeks, but the thought of downloading all the pictures seems to be stopping me from such an endeavour. hopefully in the next couple of days i will have time. until then, you can enjoy the pictures above.

There was not only buckets of rain today but...buckets of tomatoes as well!

I received a bunch of tomatoes from my sister last weekend. So many that I was unsure just what to do with all of them. I decided to give jarring a try. I ended up making tomato sauce (as you see above) and I also made tomato soup last night. There's nothing like warm soup on a rainy night! The jarring went well and I'd definitely do it again. I still have some left so I'm thinking of just jarring them like stewed tomatoes or something. Anyone have any advice for me? I'd love to hear it :D

I recently thrifted this cute babydoll dress. I'm loving the fall colors in it. I tried to get a close up of the fabric but, it was too dark. It has a sweet little floral pattern on it. I paired it with my boots, my only rain friendly shoes.
Today I'm off to the midwife for a check up and hopefully a due date!

I'm so excited to introduce my new black leather cape. Isn't it RAD?! You wanna know what's even better? It was $10 at an estate sale!!!! Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen one like this. Regardless, I seriously think it is one of a kind and can't wait to incorporate it into my wardrobe.
Another new edition is my felt hat. It's navy ...I know, blue and black don't really go together, but I'm not very concerned with rules. I added the feathers (from a cowboy hat I have), as I said above, to give it more of 70s feel. I plan on wearing them as a bandanna as well, for a fun hippie/indian look.

Today I am in a funk! I thought perhaps wearing this lovely new dress would lift my spirits. I really liked it when I saw it, but after briefly putting it on for these photos, I'm REALLY loving it! Is it absolutely necessary to sell it? I'm on the fence at this point. What do you think?
Moving on to an item I have no choice in keeping, these adorable 1960s mary jane's. They too, are new to the shop. Why do my feet have to be so big?! It seems like with each child, they grow bigger. What's the deal? Anyway, if you are as fond of these as I am, please feel free to snatch them up.

I think this a wonderful quote to start off the new year. I actually feel like I did sail away from safe harbor last year and I plan to sail even further away in 2010. There are many things I'd like to do this year and many self improvements I will be continuing to work on. I thought I would first list some things that I was proud of from 2009, then list some goals for 2010.

♥ I started my blog
♥ I opened my etsy shop
♥ I ventured into the world of raw food
♥ I started practicing EFT and have been healed of many negative emotions
♥ I lost 15 pounds that I had not been able to loose for 10 years (thanks to the raw food and EFT)
♥ I got my Christmas cards printed and up for sale (they didn't turn out exactly how I had hoped they would, but I did it and learned what not to do next time)
♥ I tried surfing. Hopefully this summer I'll stand up :D
♥ I've stuck with nursing Shane

Now for some goals
♥ Patience, patience, patience. Did I mention patience?
♥ Read more. I like to have a classic and a spiritual book going at the same time.
♥ Focus on making my shop the best it can be. I bought a dress form, so I'll be able to update more often. With three children it's pretty tough to find time to get into the clothes, take the pictures and then update. I think the dress form is going to be a life saver :D
♥ Get my daily prayers said BEFORE blogging. This one has been difficult for me.
♥ Practice the piano at least 5 days a week for a minimum of 20 minutes.
♥ Make learning more fun for the kids.
♥ Organize my house. I figure if I organize one area a week, it won't take as long as I thought.
♥ Work on staying positive.
♥ Try one new recipe every week.
♥ Exercise for at least 20 minutes a day/ five days a week.

Alright, I think that's enough.
I'm really excited to make this year one of continued growth and staying open to new adventures and experiences.

Edna was editor in chief of Vogue magazine from 1914-1952. I imagine she knew a thing or two about style. I think what she said is so true. There have been trends that come and go, I have hopped on the bandwagon many times even when the trend wasn't really my style. Sometimes I may have pulled it off, but more often than not I probably didn't. I think the reason is because it just wasn't me and when your not comfortable with what you're wearing, it's always obvious. I also think the same can be said for the opposite. If you love what your wearing, it shows in the way you walk and confidently hold yourself. You could buy a designer piece or something from a thrift store, if you have style it's going to look amazing.

There are many ways of interpreting this quote. What are your opinions and thoughts?

I can't say I necessarily agree with this quote (I still love Marlene Dietrich though). I do dress for myself and for my husband. And if I'm going to be honest here, I'd have to admit that I dress for others as well. I mean, who out there doesn't enjoy getting compliments? I'm not saying I'd wear something that wasn't me, in hopes of getting compliments. I'm just wondering, is really that big of deal to dress for yourself, the public, fashion or men?

It's interesting, even if you don't care about fashion, you are still saying something about yourself based on how you look. As much as one may not want to admit it, you are still making a statement with your clothes.

What statement do you want to make? And unless you're like Marlene Dietrich, who do you dress for?
