Local Plants Part III // Laguna Canyon

Untitled
We've now gone on three different hikes in Laguna Canyon and they all were really fun and beautiful. We met many new plant friends along the paths and I love how interested Shane and Marianne are about it all.

On our first hike of the year we came across this beauty above. The kids liked the curly vines and how they attached to anything nearby. When we got home I did some research and found out it was Wild Cucumber. Several weeks later when we were back in Laguna we got to see it fully developed.

  1. see, this is why you need to post as many bird and plant pics as you want. because of MEEEEE. because i have been seeing that wild cucumber everywhere, didn't know what it was, and haven't had time to ID. AND NOW I KNOW.

i love seeing all the plant people of your bioregion. how are the wildflowers? i bet its gonna be a good year. also, the best are the wild and unidentified little creatures. such love. <3

    1. hahaha! I have to say I'm pretty excited by the idea that you learned a plant name from me of all people! I think about you every time we go on a hike so maybe it's fitting :) I'm happy to know you enjoy these because I'm not too sure many people are interested...but that's ok because this is MY BLOG Mawhahaha!

  2. How did I miss this?!?? I'm seconding Mary on her excitement. It's certainly brightening up my day, laying in bed frustrated because there are so many other things to do <3 I'm beyond inspired by your id-ing skills and tenacity on this project. You rock. <3 <3 <3

  3. Thank you! I moved to Southern California just 6 months ago from the UK and it has driven me mad not knowing the names of plants and birds here - I'm especially pleased to know that 'that' is 'Dodder' - I saw so much of it in the hills this weekend! Stephanie
