Castor Bean- the source of castor oil and ricin, which is deadly.
I have several that I've yet to identify and many that I still need to photograph but I think I'm off to a good start. Since I'll be home most of the summer I think this will be a great way to pass the time and educate myself and the kids. I hope you enjoyed this because there will be more to come in the following weeks.

ReplyDeleteThat little mallow is so sweet, I've never seen it before. Isn't it amazing we're in the same state, yet because Cali is so big, we can have totally different flora where we live? It's so fun too, to see favorites (like the e.p.) and to feel like I'm seeing a good friend visiting you. I would love to hear how getting to know the plants changes your experience on walks/in nature. And of course...all the photos are gorgeous. Now we have yet another thing we could dork out over together, when we see each other again...but much longer next time please. xo
And you know, I'm interested too! What a great project. I'm always, always finding out new plants, even new edible medicinal plans in my area. It's always such a revelation, I love it! <3 THank you for sharing your bioregion <3
ReplyDeleteThis is so wonderful! It's exactly what I'm working on in my area, although fairly haphazardly. I hardly recognize any of these from my nature wanders, crazy how different northern and southern Cali are. I love that alkali heliotrope, what dainty little darlings! thanks for inspiring once again.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying so hard to do this myself, throwing it in the homeschooling mix as a way of making it a little more deliberate. Sometimes I'm overwhelmed with how much there is to learn, but as I learn more and more, I feel more and more connected to the little living things near me. Your pictures are great. Nature photography sort of alludes me. You do it well.
