ooohhh, i'm packin' my life away...

yep, that's right. we are in the midst of packing up for our big move. where are we going you may ask...well, we aren't quite sure! all of our belongings are going into storage and we will be gypsies until we find a house. i had actually found the most perfect, lovely, awesome house. my dream house to be exact. papers signed, money payed and then what do you know...the whole thing fell through! big time bummer but, i guess it just wasn't meant to be. something else will come our way.
while packing my closet, i realized how much STUFF i have. this was not a pleasant realization. i have way too many pairs of shoes, purses, scarves, hats and other random things i thought i had to have. most of them don't see the light of day but once a year at best. why am i holding on to all these things? i'm seriously tempted to just get rid of it all. i think i'd feel very liberated. i'm always talking about wanting to live a simpler life, so when i was faced with the reality of the STUFF i felt like such a hypocrite! and what's worse is that knowing how i felt, i still had a hard time making a pile to go to charity! ahhhhh!!!! suddenly the word HOARDER is coming to mind. haha, ok, i'm not that bad but...
now i'm determined. when i unpack, i WILL get rid of/sell a good portion of the STUFF. good thing i have an etsy shop ;D anyone else out there know how i feel? i guess this all may seem weird coming from someone who posts pictures of themselves in outfits and may seemingly appear to love clothes. i do like clothes, don't get me wrong, they are a form of expression and they may make us feel good about ourselves etc... but in the end the clothes don't make the man.
i better quit rambling and get on back to packing!
anyone remember THIS SONG? anytime i'm doing a lot of the same thing i just sing this song and fill in the blank- ooh, i'm ------ing my life away... previous versions have been quilting, cookin' and crafting. you should try it,it's pretty darn fun!

  1. i feel EXACTLY the same way. in fact, i am excited for when we do move out of this house because i want to get rid of tons of stuff! i look around and i cannot believe how much we've accumulated, and it makes me mad/sad because i do indeed want to be the kind of person who can live a simple life and just pick up and go. being addicted to books and thrifted clothes is dangerous! but there are only a handful of clothes that i am actually attached to, things that were passed down from my mom and grandma or that i have special memories of. i like to think if the time came i could narrow it down quite a bit.

you know what is fun? clothing exchanges with girlfriends...and of course you bring shoes, purses and accessories too. then later you have the pleasure of seeing your lovely ladies in stuff you once owned. and you feel like your cute things get a loving home. i wish all us blogger ladies could have a clothing exchange with each other, how dang fun would that be!??!!

good luck with the move. it sounds like a crazy adventure.

  5. Remember it?! I LOVE that song, have since I was a little kid! Best song EVER to sing along to while driving. That one and "I Love a Rainy Night"... Ah, good ol' Eddie Rabbit, haha :D

Good luck with the move and the STUFF, I know, the STUFF is a tough one, Lucas keeps me in check a lot when it comes to the STUFF as he is very anti-the STUFF, haha. Sending positive thoughts on the home search front!

  6. totally get what you mean about STUFF...was just trying to organize the closet this morning. i love each piece, but folded and stacked together, ugh.

  8. I totally know what you mean with the clothes! There's nothing bad about sorting them out from time to time, that doesn't mean you don't love clothing. I sort out stuff regularly a) because I'm a poor student in constant need of money and b) I'm constantly changing and so is my wardrobe :)

  9. Bummer about the house falling through, and having to pack. Bright side is that you get to be gypsies though! Sounds like a great way to finish up the summer.

  10. My favorite show is Hoarding: Buried Alive. Seriously. I find myself keeping things that I have no use for, unfinished "projects", things that I inherited that I can't seem to part with. That show is a serious reality check :) We are about to move too, and I'm dreading packing!!! I wish you the best of luck!!!

  15. Ooh, good luck with everything!! I started feeling like a hoarder when I was packing up for my last move. I had this pile of junk I couldn't quite part with, but then when I thought of how I wanted our new house to be uncluttered and pretty, it was easy to part with.

  19. Ohhhh, Miss Anne!
Yes, how I do know your plight, my dear one.
As each summer tuns to winter, here in CO., I take great pleasure in changing out summer ware for winter - visa versa, and during the process I hear myself...oooh, Ahhhh look at that and that, and that and ...what the hell? - I still have that, and that, and it goes on & on... and a garment pile that builds up for the thrift shop. If it lingers too long, the pile starts traveling back into the closet! Don't let it happen to YOU...AHHHHHH.

    Big Hugs to you!
Tori (PS...that perfect house will show itself in due course...enjoy the ride!)
