Fashion can be bought. Style one must possess.
Edna Woolman Chase
Edna was editor in chief of Vogue magazine from 1914-1952. I imagine she knew a thing or two about style. I think what she said is so true. There have been trends that come and go, I have hopped on the bandwagon many times even when the trend wasn't really my style. Sometimes I may have pulled it off, but more often than not I probably didn't. I think the reason is because it just wasn't me and when your not comfortable with what you're wearing, it's always obvious. I also think the same can be said for the opposite. If you love what your wearing, it shows in the way you walk and confidently hold yourself. You could buy a designer piece or something from a thrift store, if you have style it's going to look amazing.
There are many ways of interpreting this quote. What are your opinions and thoughts?
Great post! I'm the same as you. In the past I tried to wear things that were in fashion. Sometimes it's hard not to, as most shops only stock the 'trends', rather than more classic items. But as I've got older I've discovered what suits me and the colours that work best. I used to wear jeans the whole time, but now mostly wear sweater dresses, tunics and high waisted skirts as it flatters my shape better than boring jeans and t-shirts day in day out. It definitely makes you feel better if you're happy with what you wear. I think style takes time to develop, but once you have it, you don't need to spend a fortune on clothes. It's how you put the outfit together that makes it stylish, not the price-tag!
ReplyDeleteyeah I always think its a bit cringe-worthy when you see a whole bunch of people dressed the same because its trendy...although I have like you been guilty of this a few times before!!
ReplyDeleteI think of how style is even more than what you're wearing! The way you do your hair, the way you walk - just like you said! Fashion is just what you use to express your style.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!

i dont think i have much style. i wish i did but more times than not i end up getting it wrong...
ReplyDeleteI'm definitly agreeing with you on that! At least today they are so many trends going at the same time and the fashion world is becoming more vast and vast! It make it easier to find items that fit us and our taste! And Yes, it is mainly about the attitude! ;)

you're right. Is not the name of the designer or how expensive are your shoes, is all on you.

Playing around with trends can be fun. I think style definitely comes into play in how one interprets fashion and trends. Having the ability to wear them in such a way that makes them your own.
ReplyDeleteThe other side would be having the ability to look amazing while not following fashion or trends at all, being completely original. Something to strive for, but much harder to do I think!
