Top That!!!

I saw a few bloggers out there talk about this video. I just had to post it. This scene from Teen Witch has always been a favorite and to see it redone is so rad! My sister and I use to reenact this together. You have to watch it!

I especially love it because Alia Shawkat is in it. Ruben just gave me the whole Arrested Development series on DVD. I have to say, I think it may be the funniest t.v. show ever. Maybe even funnier than Seinfeld. Don't quote me on that :) I have a really hard time saying something is the best or my favorite. For some reason I feel like it will be written in stone and I can never change my mind. Weird, I know.

Here's to 2010 topping 2009! I hope you all have fun tonight.

Very Vinyl

Oh how it feels good to have a record player again. When Ruben and I first started dating, we spent many hours on the floor listening to records. The first time he was at my house, he heard Kiss Kiss Bang Bang by Specimen playing (I was still coming out of my gothic days :D) and he laughed said that he had that album on vinyl. From then on we would hang out and listen to music together. Things haven't changed much, in that area, in the last 12 years (holy moly...I can't believe we've been together that long). We've gone through a few record players and went many years without one at all, but now we're back baby!
After I bought the player I immediately went out to the Goodwill in search of some new records to add to our collection. Boy, did I find some winners.
I have a deep love for the Boss. Here I am making eyes at him. Bruce I want to be your Wendy or Mary!!! Do you think he heard me?
These are my new, handmade fingerless gloves that I got for Christmas. Aren't they cute?!

Does anyone remember this video? For some reason I can't help thinking about it when listening to records.
It's almost 2010! My list of resolutions are being written up and will be featured in a post soon. I just thought if I posted them I'd have a better chance of actually sticking to them. We'll see.

Birthday Fun

Yesterday was Ruben's birthday. We spent the afternoon in Huntington Beach at our friends house. Here are some snapshots of the day.

Not the greatest picture of me, but it was the only one I got of the two of us.

The sunset was amazing!

Ruben and Max singing together.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I haven't been on the computer since my last post, so I have a lot of catching up to do :O

Blue Christmas

Some blue goodness to brighten your day. The song below is by First Aid Kit. They are sisters and I just love their voices and their rendition of this Christmas classic.

The Chuck

We spent Saturday night at The Chuckwagon, our favorite local watering hole. For some strange reason the place was empty, except Ruben and I, our friends and the bartender. We spent the night listening to music on the jukebox, dancing and laughing. I have to say, I haven't had that much fun in quite a while.

Here I am trying to dance like John Travolta in Urban Cowboy to this song. Since most people reading this don't know me, I have to tell you I NEVER dance, so this was probably pretty darn amusing to those watching.
Those there are my newly thrifted cowboy boots. I think they're super and I'm pretty sure they helped out with my dancing. I mean you can't dance to The Charlie Daniel's Band without boots, can you?

More dancing, this time with my partner in crime, Nicky.

Ruben selecting all the hits on the jukebox. Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, The Stones, The Allman Bros... they all got their turn that night!

Christmas is almost here! I hope you all have a calm week, no last minute craziness :D

Feeling HOT HOT HOT!!!

Here is one of my favorite dresses that I thrifted this summer. I love everything about it. The print, the crochet detail on the chest and the fact that it fits me perfectly. You may be wondering why I am wearing a summer dress in December, well I'll tell ya. It was almost 80 degrees today! This is something that upsets me greatly. It's very hard to get in a Christmas spirit with hot weather! I want to be wearing scarves, tights, coats, boots... but if I did I would be sweating up a storm. Oh well, what the heck can I do?
The second photo is of me and my honey. I just found that shirt he has on at The Goodwill a few weeks ago. I love it and I think he looks pretty darn cute in it.

These are pictures of our Christmas Village. This is a tradition that was started when I was a girl and has now been passed down to my kiddies. It is quite an ordeal to get everything up, but definitely worth it. This year it had to be scaled down a bit because of Shane AKA Mr Destructo. Also, maybe you noticed we only have tree decorations on the top half of the tree. Yep, that's because of him as well. Let me tell ya, he is something else!
So, do you have Christmas traditions that you do each year? I'd love to hear about them.

On the cover of the Rolling Stone

Here are just a few covers of Rolling Stone Magazine. It was so much fun looking through all of them and I remember a lot of them (especially the 80's) from way back. The first one is of Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show. Oh, you've never heard of them? Well listen to their song that got them that cover!

Happy Wednesday!

I want one of these!

Last night we went to our friends Christmas party and looky what was in the drive way! This motor home is the awesomest, coolest, most fantastic thing I've seen a long time. I want one!!!! All of my traveling, free wheelin' desires could be met with this vehicle. Summers at the beach, drives up the coast, weekend away...sigh!
I ended up wearing this dress to the party and I also cut bangs the other day. I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about them. What do think? You can tell me the truth, I won't get my feelings hurt. Even if you say, "Ahhh! you look sick!" hahaha. Ok, maybe that would. You could say it a little nicer. I just needed a change and cutting my hair shorter wasn't an option, so I figured bangs were the alternative.
Lastly, I have a big shop update coming up here. I hope to start listing the new items today, so make sure to come back and see what's new!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Weekly Quote

Fashion can be bought. Style one must possess.

Edna Woolman Chase

Edna was editor in chief of Vogue magazine from 1914-1952. I imagine she knew a thing or two about style. I think what she said is so true. There have been trends that come and go, I have hopped on the bandwagon many times even when the trend wasn't really my style. Sometimes I may have pulled it off, but more often than not I probably didn't. I think the reason is because it just wasn't me and when your not comfortable with what you're wearing, it's always obvious. I also think the same can be said for the opposite. If you love what your wearing, it shows in the way you walk and confidently hold yourself. You could buy a designer piece or something from a thrift store, if you have style it's going to look amazing.

There are many ways of interpreting this quote. What are your opinions and thoughts?

Mary Ann - My Gram

Minnesota days

Junior in High School- 1940 she is on the bottom row, 3rd from the left
Buena Park, Ca. 1944 and Minnesota( year?)
Aunt Joanie, my Grandfather and Gram 1951

Here she is with my Dad and Uncle

my Dad, Grandfather and Gram 1959

she is in the middle sitting on my Grandfather's lap 1950

Yesterday was my Gram's birthday. I'm sorry, I can't tell you how old she would have been, she would be very upset with me :) She never revealed her age while living, so I'll honor her wishes and not reveal it now. Gram was a big part of my childhood. My sister and I spent a lot of time with her on the weekends. I remember we always watched The Munsters and The Three Stooges on Saturday mornings at her house, while eating toast and drinking coffee. We went with her to get her hair done at Aunt Elaine's (her sister) house and she always took us to Mass on Sunday's. As an adult I visited her every Tuesday with my step-mom,Cathy and my kids. We would have lunch and play cards, and let me tell ya, Gram did not like to loose.
Yesterday was also the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Gram had a great devotion to our Blessed Mother. I'm so thankful for her faith which she passed on to me and for all those years I had with her. I miss you and love you Gram!
