the great pumpkin

Last week when we were at the grocery store, they were having a contest to guess the weight of an enormous pumpkin. We are always up for a contest, so we all made our guesses and put them in the box. Yesterday, as we were getting ready to head on over to our friends house for pumpkin carving, the phone rang. It was a man asking for my son. I asked what it was about (he's only 10 so he doesn't get any phone calls ) and the man said my son Max, had won the pumpkin contest! And the prize, of course, was the 250 lbs. pumpkin! I can't tell you how excited he was, it was so awesome.
I immediately wondered what the heck we were going to do with a 250lbs. pumpkin. My children had the answer, carve it. So there it is in all its gigantic glory! Look at how it dwarfs the other normal sized pumpkins. I'm sure the trick or treaters are going to love it.

Anyway,I can't wait to see all the costume posts tomorrow. Mine will be up also, so come check it out. I hope you all have a super spooky Halloween!

Meow

leggings- forever 21
shirt- thrifted
belt- borrowed
boots- thrifted
necklace- attached a gold broach to a gold necklace

Last Saturday we went to our friends annual Halloween party. As you can see, I went as Catwoman. Julie Newmar Catwoman that is. I really can't believe a threw this costume together like I did. I found the leggings at Forever 21 and then hopped on over to the Goodwill, and BAM! there was the perfect shirt. The boots, which you can't see in the picture (dang!) I had thrifted a month or so back, so I already had them. The gloves (not pictured) and belt I borrowed from Miss Kitty herself and the necklace...I have to say I was most proud of that. I connected a big gold broach to a big gold necklace. And there you have my best and most accurate Halloween costume ever.
The make-up was a lot of fun. Ever since my "dark days" I've toned down my make-up a lot. So I enjoyed getting a chance to do it up again! I hadn't worn false eyelashes in ages either, I am definitely out of practice, but I got those babies on. I love the look of them, super 60s! Now that I have a pair, maybe I'll wear them a little more often. I dug the eyebrows too, I did them just like Julie Newmar's in the T.V. show.
The only thing I would do differently, is take the sides of the shirt in, it was too baggy. But overall I loved it. Meow!

Crochette Bow Headband

We have a birthday party to go to today, so yesterday I whipped up this headband for the gift. I'm quite pleased with it and will definitely be making one for myself. Aren't they cute! It didn't take long either. Now, that's my kind of project!

The Stranger in the Glass Box

I was at South Coast Plaza today, walking around, when what to my wondering eyes should appear? This series of photos by Quentin Shih for Christian Dior! It's the first time they've been shown in the U.S. I have to say though, they were much more impressive in person. Looking at them on a computer screen does not due them justice. You can't see all the details. For instance, everyone (except the models) has over-exaggerated rosy cheeks and great expressions on their faces. I loved it! And of course, the clothing is exceptionally beautiful. Maybe on his website you can zoom in, if you so desire. Anyway, I thought they were really amazing and wanted to share them with you. Hope you enjoy :)

Cuckoo For Marionettes

Last night my children and I watched Pinocchio, my all time favorite Disney movie. It has such a great message and moral. I wish all children's movies had one, unfortunately they don't. But that's a whole different topic. Let's move on to the fun stuff! Cuckoo clocks and marionettes. The awesome collage at the top can be found here. I seriously wish I owned every one of those. The next one I found here. The last two I found on etsy here and here. Ever since I was little, I've always wanted a cuckoo clock. Maybe it's time to make that wish come true.

What do you think of that first video? I liked the skeleton one best, although they all were pretty cool. And no post about marionettes would be complete without the puppet show scene from The Sound of Music. Again, one of my favorites movies. A few years ago I went to The Sound of Music Sing Along at the Hollywood Bowl. It was so much fun!
Well, that's it for now friends. Have a great Wednesday!

Halloween Help!!!

Alright, Halloween is upon us and I still don't have a costume. Here are some pictures of the past couple of years. As you can see in the first one, Ruben and I are Slash and Axl. That was hilarious, and yes, he went around the entire night with the cigarette hanging from his mouth and a drunken look on his face. hehehe The year before that we were 70's tennis players (rackets not in photo). But, this year???
We have a party on Saturday, so the clock is a tickin' for me. A few of my ideas include- Robert Palmer girl, 1980's Tina Turner, Mortitia Adams or Arwen from The Lord of The Rings(my hubby's idea, he thinks I look like an elf). If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them and I'd also like to know what you are dressing as. Let me know :)

The Good Ol' Drive-in

Last night we went to the drive-in to see Where The Wild Things Are. It was so awesome! I hadn't been to a drive-in for a very long time. We brought the essentials- homemade popcorn, candy and beer. What's better than watching a movie outside with the stars overhead, your loved ones near by and popcorn and beer? Pretty cool! I think we'll be going a lot more. Not only is it fun, it's also way cheaper. Plus, you can't really take a one year into a movie theater, but you definitely can take them to the drive-in!
If you're looking for a drive-in theater near you, check out this site.

Does your man have P.A.???

Hahaha! That ad is the greatest thing I've seen in a long time! I mean the first thing I look for in a man is Pipe Appeal! Doesn't every sophisticated lady? hehehe Ok, I'm not saying to start smoking or anything, but pipes sure are pretty awesome! And I think they smell good too. I found that set for my husband at an antique store a couple of months ago. I think they may have been his favorite gift I've ever given him. Now he just has to start using it. Wait, I take that back. We'll just put them out for decoration for now :)
p.s.- don't I look ladylike holding a pipe?
p.p.s.- this is what happens when I'm in the house for two days straight. Sick babies+ no sleep+nursing 24 hours a day+cabin fever= crazy!

The Edison

A couple weeks I went to The Edison, for my wonderful friend's birthday. What an awesome place! Make sure you check out their site, it's really cool. Anyway, there are silent movies being played on the wall, great old jazz being played and all the waitresses are dressed in 1920's attire. The night I went, there were Cirque du Soleil-ish performers there. Very entertaining!
When I went to the ladies room, I got really excited because they were playing "Mi par d'udir ancora" by Enrico Caruso. Ever since I first heard that song I have been in love with it. I never thought I'd be interested in opera, but when it sounds like that, I guess I am.
My friend had on an amazing gold vintage pant set, she looked lovely as usual. As I told her, we have now been friends for over half our life! Aren't real friends fantastic. The kind who stick around through all the difficult times, when you're no fun at all. Well that's what she is, a wonderful friend, who would be there for me no matter what. Love ya Vanessa!
